The role: Commercial Analyst

As our Commercial Analyst you will be responsible for the control of key financial and commercial processes across a number of client accounts. You will have regular contact with the account management teams, ensuring the working capital is handled effectively and efficiently. In addition, you will assist the Senior Commercial Manager in the analysis on the commercial performance of these clients.


As a Commercial Analyst you are expected to be a focused, inquisitive person able to manage your time well and actively look for problems as well as identifying solutions. Working closely with other departments will require excellent communication skills that maintain good working relationships but also convey authority.


Personal Specification Commercial Analyst

1) Part Qualified CIMA accountant with relevant commercial experience.

2) Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Information and ideas should be communicated in a medium and style suitable for the intended recipient. Verbal communication skills should demonstrate a professional yet personable style to help foster mutual trust, understanding and respect.

3) Ability to build strong working relationships. Strong working relationships with others must be viewed as an essential part of the role. The candidate must be able to understand and facilitate the interests of others whilst delivering the commercial requirements of the organisation.

4) Ability to work under pressure with a proactive and enthusiastic approach. A positive attitude to work and a willingness to engage in new challenges is essential. The candidate should have experience in managing conflicting work schedule requirements and have a proven ability to self-manage and prioritise work load to meet strict deadlines. 5) Positive attitude to change. Your key tasks and responsibilities: Commercial Analyst


Financial Accounting:

• Raising client billing requests to the Accounts Receivable team in line with contractual agreements

• Client specific journal entries for a portfolio of clients including revenue recognition, cost accrual and deferral and month end reconciliations.

• Day to day monitoring of all balance sheet accounts covering client WIP, deferred and accrued costs; including the analysis, reconciliation and reporting on such amounts.

• Reporting of working capital management including analysis and suggestions for operational improvements.



• Leading SOX compliance testing and prepare the month end files for review by the Senior Commercial Manager

• Assist in establishing effective control procedures to ensure SOX compliance


• Manage insurance limits for all outstanding Accounts Receivable and WIP balances



• Creating and updating reports to provide relevant data to our senior management team about staff utilisation and client profitability

• Have knowledge of the forecasts for our client contracts

• Assist with data entry into reporting software for forecast submission

• Provide variance analysis of the financial performance of the client contracts for both revenue and direct costs

• Assist with reporting to group finance with variance analysis

• Attend commercial review meetings to discuss financial performance of client contracts


Key skills required for your role:

Financial A good basic understanding of accounting standards is critical along with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel; you will also need to demonstrate the ability to understand and address commercial issues.



You should be confident writing reports in a fashion and style suitable for the intended recipient who may not have a financial background. Your verbal communication skills should demonstrate a professional and personable style to help champion both trust and understanding but also engender respect in those from other disciplines.



You must be able to communicate ideas easily and clearly to individuals across the organisation. You should have a personable style, so you can work with both internal stakeholders and our clients making sure you are both credible, reliable and trustworthy.
