The DevOps software developers will work in a large scale, complex, critical environment with an opportunity to develop new concepts in a constantly evolving practice, optimising for example Cloud services adopting AWS and related cloud technologies in the pursuit of constant improvement, in, for example, deploy time.
The role will encompass all facets of development, supporting the development team/build, delivery and operations whilst working closely with other team members, particularly other developers, testers and project managers.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
To be successful we are looking for a track record in DevOps software development working on complex, significant projects. From a delivery perspective we are looking for expertise in Infrastructure automation tools (Ansible is essential; chef would be advantageous), exposure to managing Infrastructure as code, managing Complex Environment Inventory and completed deployments using Ansible scripts (includes pre-work to update inventory, dealing with any issue prior and post the deployment.)
From an Operations perspective, we’re looking for demonstrable experience within Unix / Linux environments (RedHat), shell scripting (bash, python, perl), application/web servers (Jboss, Apache), databases (Oracle, MySql – any Volt would be highly advantageous) and candidates ultimately comfortable with Production Environments and an innate ability to debug environment issues and perform root-cause analysis.
From personal perspective, good communication, stakeholder management, ability to prioritise workloads, learn quickly and operate within a large, distributed development team aiming to resolve complex technical challenges quickly are key. Prior experience in mission critical applications, a proactive nature and experience of large Complex Application is preferable.
Finally, any experience of working in the Utilities Sector or knowledge of Smart Metering would be desirable but not essential.
Be part of something transformative and join us as we recruit for a number of DevOps software engineers working within a talented DevOps team on a UK flag-ship Smart Metering program for the business.
This represents a unique opportunity to join a DevOps team working in a complex and critical environment and would suit an enthusiastic and committed software engineer keen to make a real and valued contribution to a significant project.
