Role Title:                             Director of External Relations

Reports to:                          Chief Intelligence Officer

Location:                              London

Salary:                                £90k+ (negotiable)


Role Purpose


Position the organisation as the centre of intelligence and knowledge on fraud and fraud prevention.


Key Accountabilities


  • Exhibit collective leadership for the organisation, contributing to the delivery of our strategic priorities 
  • Demonstrate and role model behaviours consistent with our values of collaboration, integrity, expertise, innovation and respect 
  • Lead and direct a cohesive, effective and efficient team, with high morale, personal development opportunities; and motivate team members to demonstrate behaviours consistent with our values of collaboration, integrity, expertise, innovation and respect
  • To support the development of and lead implementation of the fraud influencing strategy
  • To position the organisation as a thought leader on fraud and innovation in fraud prevention
  • Act as an external spokesperson as required
  • Developing the organisation policy relating to fraud and financial crime
  • Deputising for the CIO at cross-government multi-agency taskforce
  • High level representation with government, law-enforcement bodies and directing our public affairs strategy
  • Influencing politicians to raise the profile of fraud prevention in the UK
  • Drafting policy briefings and presentations for the organisation executive team
  • Directing the organisation intelligence strategy and delivering the control strategy action plan
  • Directing the organisation communication strategy including handling media enquiries and digital communications
  • Directing the public relations strategy to influence key strategic stakeholders 
  • Own The organisation’ social media strategy and web support requirements
  • Develop and implement a crisis communications handling plan for The organisation
  • Professionally represent and promote The organisation externally as required
  • Undertake other duties as required



Personal Specification : Essential:


Experience and Knowledge:

  • Proven experience of a similar or relevant senior role managing high level stakeholders
  • Knowledge and experience in fraud and financial crime
  • Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and intelligence development
  • Working knowledge of press relations and crisis communications
  • Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities
  • Extensive experience of staff management and leadership, getting the best from staff and confidently dealing with underperformance
  • A highly accomplished public speaker and ambassador
  • Experience of leading effective change management
  • A track record of delivering results in a complex and environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Skills and Abilities:


  • Confident and clear written and spoken communication - somebody who is just as comfortable presenting as analysing complex policy issues 
  • Numerate, well-organised and attentive to detail
  • Committed to the development of staff and self
  • Good judgement
