Job Purpose Statement:

The role of Financial Controller is an important one.  As a leading provider of managed service cloud telecommunication solutions with complex business with multiple revenue streams, a developing system of control and reporting and the need to react quickly and flexibly to meet stakeholder demands. The Financial Controller must have a sense of ownership and a desire to improve the accounting, reporting, control and forecasting of all aspects of  business (including cash collection and cash payments). They will need to work closely with the Finance Director and take responsibility for:

  • Month end accounting
  • Management of the general ledger
  • AP team management (2 direct reports)
  • AR team management (3 direct reports)
  • Cashflow forecasting and reporting  
  • VAT accounting
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements to drive efficiencies


You will need to be confident, inquisitive, flexible and resilient. It is key that you have the confidence to act independently and ask difficult questions. A strong level of curiosity, initiative and ‘tech savviness’ is important.

Job Accountabilities and Tasks:


  • Preparation of accurate monthly management accounts and associated reporting
  • Timely month end close
  • Ensure effective financial controls are in place
  • Responsibility for managing all aspects of AP including review, approval and scheduling of payments
  • Responsibility for managing all aspects of AR including target setting, management of credit control and cash collection from customers
  • Preparation of detailed monthly cashflow projections and associated Board reporting on performance against targets
  • Liaison with commercial, sales and acct management teams to understand and drive resolution of customer issues impacting cash collection
  • Ensure the company meet its cash targets through effective working capital management
  • VAT return preparation
  • Management of audit issues

Job Knowledge and Experience

  • Solid financial training and likely to have knowledge of multiple organisations (from audit work in practice)
  • Comprehensive understanding of monthly reporting close processes (month end journals through to BS review and P&L analysis)
  • Understanding of the importance of effective controls
  • Demonstrable record of achievements in previous roles
  • Evidence of ownership and/or driving improvements to business processes
  • Applicant must know what ‘good’ looks like
  • Any experience in a SME environment (and or SAP B1) would be an advantage


  • Member of a recognised accountancy body (preferably ACA)
